So for some time now I’ve been searching for used Panasonic DVX100(A or B)’s and just haven’t been finding what I want.
This led me to further exploration of the highly coveted Panasonic HVX200.

Mind you, a used DVX100A (some with more than 400 hours on the heads – EEESH) is averaging around $1700. A new DVX100B can be had for around $2600. The HVX200 weighs in at $5199 from B&H Photo. Yea, that’s twice the price of the DVX100B…I see that.
BUT!
We’re talking moving up from SD (Standard Definition) to true HD (High Definition)! That’s a massive leap of potential quality and production. Not to mention that even in SD mode, the HV200 has a superior lens and native 16:9 CCDs!!! Also, one feature I absolutely LOVE is that the HVX200 has on-camera variable frame rates!!! This means REAL-TIME slow motion!!!
I can, at this moment, find the means to manage 3/5 of the cost within 10 days. I think the HVX200 is a real option. And, by sucking up the sacrifices and the larger initial investment, I will be opening the door to better-paying gigs and a faster return. To most people, spending $5200 ($2000 of which you don’t have) on a “video camera” seems ridiculous…but to me, it makes PERFECT sense!!!
I’ll be talking to God about this and see what He says. I’ll keep ya posted, but regardless, this won’t be an overnight purchase…likely be a couple months before I’m ready to make the leap either way.
