Act III – Don’t Follow Rob Bell to Hell, Follow Jesus.
I wasn’t sure how I wanted to approach this Act. Or, even how much I wanted to cover.
Honestly, I’m still not sure, so I’m just going to go with it and see where it leads.
As I mentioned in the first Act, there were picketers outside before the show. Upon exiting the Tabernacle, it was clear that more had arrived since we first left the street. More signs, more shouting, and more bodies.
The very first thing I hear is one man saying, “Look at them, I bet none of them have even read the Bible!”
Immediate judgment. Immediate condemnation.
This is such a conflict for me. Every part of me wants to be angry and defensive. But at the same time, I’m telling myself to be empathetic, show compassion and don’t engage argument with them.
We can’t help but attempt having a conversation with some of these guys because of the accusations and outlandish claims they are shouting. Attempt is basically all you can do. There’s no discussing, in a civilized manner, such topics as faith, religion or politics with the closed-minded.
So, I take the time to say hello to Steve Fee. We have a casual conversation about his last show at Anderson University and the fact that my boy, Lee McDerment, just recorded a CD at the same place he did. What a cool guy and great vessel.
It was then that I decided to just sit down and look. And I saw with outsiders’ eyes what was going on all around.
Christian and Christian engaged in argument.
And how does that look? Not good. What part of that would any nonbeliever want? None!
After a few moments, we packed up and headed home.
All in all, in was a great trip and awesome event.
