I’ve been searching the net for the “right” iPhone case for me.
I’ve looked at almost all options and I think I have it narrowed down to four. One thing we’ll get out of the way. I’m not a fan of the rubberized options. It’s too much of a war trying to get the phone in and out of your pocket. With that said, I’ve settled on finding a nice leather option.
Here are the four cases I’m leaning on.
- Piel Frama iPhone Wallet
- Piel Frama iPhone Magnetic Flip
- Vaja i-Volution Top SP Holster
- Sena Dockable Case
This is the Piel Frama iPhone Wallet.
It’s a luxury leather product from Spain. It carries the price tag to boot. After converting from the Euro, this is in the neighborhood of $120 USD. It’s available in several colors (red pictured for detail) and even in crocodile and ostrich skin options (at a higher price).
The meat and potatoes.
Here’s what I like. It’s nice leather. It has wallet-style features: credit card slots, cash pocket, ID holder, etc. It holds and protects the iPhone – all corners are covered and it has a closure system.
Here’s what I’m not so sure about. Seems like it may be cumbersome. I’m not interesting in belt-clipping, so I want to pocket carry. This one seems bulky.
It also has a female wallet look to it.
Not sure I wanna forfeit those man-points.
But, it seems highly functional.
This is the Piel Frama iPhone Magnetic Flip.
Same Spanish maker as the previous item, using fine grade, high quality Argentinian leather. Carries an only slightly cheaper price tag, coming in at around $88.
This is a more common item for this company and I have found these on eBay for $60.
Here’s the goods.
What I like. Luxury leather, 2 credit card slots, cash pocket and full coverage protection. It’s stylish. The magnetic closures do the job and require no effort to open or close. It also seems to be more pocket friendly than the previous model. I’ve read reviews from a few users using this case and carry method with no qualms about it crowding their pocket or fighting to get it out.
What I don’t like. It’s not quite as functional as the other wallet style. Also, being that it opens with the flap from the top, I can see (and have read) where this can be a hindrance concerning headphone usage.
It’s definitely more guy-friendly than the previous model, so I don’t think I’d lose too many man points.
This is the Vaja i-Volution Top SP Holster. (Link to mfg site only)
Another high quality leather case.
This is probably the coolest of the lot. The design is very interesting and customizable in almost every fashion including each color swatch and the inclusion of a belt clip (or not) and what style of clip.
Just like the others, this packs a hefty price tag. $80
What I like. Definitely has a cool factor. Flap opens to the bottom so that there’s no obstruction of the headphone jack. Customizable options. Covers the iPhone well.
Dislikes. Leaves one corner exposed to damage if dropped precisely…and I would be the one to do just that. Closure option may weaken over time and use making the case prone to come open and expose the phone.
Finally, we have the Sena Dockable Case.
This one is very similar to the Piel Frama Magnetic Flip case. However, it addresses one of the biggest qualms with the PF case. It’s flap is fashioned so that it doesn’t obstruct the headset jack.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this case isn’t made with the same quality leather as the PF cases, but the advantage is price. At $52 this is the cheapest option I have found that I like.
Another feature that this case boasts above the other three options is the fact that it is dockable. (See image)
What I like. The price. Stylish and functional. Seems to be pocket friendly and doesn’t appear too bulky. It’s dockable.
What I don’t like. Of all the cases here, it seems to be the most vulnerable – having almost all four corners of the iPhone exposed.
There’s my conundrum. I’ve found some case options for the phone, but I can’t seem to lean enough on one or the other in order to make a decision. Considering the cost, I’d prefer making the best decision the first time around. But, considering the cost of a replacement iPhone, I’d like to make the decision in a timely manner. Even the most expensive case here is a fourth of the cost of a new iPhone!
Any help? Any other options you may think I’d like?
