I really want to be a part of something like this.

Recently my pastor has been talking a lot about this man, Erwin McManus. I was first intrigued by the fact that Erwin pastors a church is Los Angeles that meets in a bar. Then, I hear he’s one of the most profound Christian leaders working this amazing movement of the Church today – so I had to learn more.

In doing so, I stumbled upon the most amazing thing.

The discovery of Awaken.

My favorite aspect of this team, they make films.

Even better is that the Awaken team is comprised, not of Christians trying to be filmmakers, but of filmmakers who are Christians. Yes, there is a difference – you’ll see it on the screen.

From what I’ve seen, the productions are well-polished and extremely tight. I long so much to be a part of something like this. I believe that there is a need for more of this. More embracing technology, art, creativity, and multimedia for the use of God’s glory.

Film is one of the most glamorous and highly-tauted forms of art-meets-communication there ever has been. Of course our Lord wants to use it in growing His kingdom. And, like all things, He desires the utmost for His highest!

Erwin McManus’ book “Soul Cravings,” met the combined media and talent of the Awaken team to create a companion piece – a collection of short films on DVD. What brilliance!! The films correspond with the themes discussed in the book. I’m blown away. I cannot wait to own both the book and the DVD set.

This is the kind of creativity I’m longing for. This is what I’d love to see more of in the Church.

This is what I want to be a part of!

And, by the way, they’re holding a conference in April of 2008. I want to go. Anyone with me?
