White people and Healthcare

Haha.

Stuff White People Like is totally reading my mail today.  The most recent post is about Free Healthcare.

Seriously, aside from the Michael Moore thing and the closing bit about public schools, this is totally me.  I may be one of the only white people in the world who hasn’t seen SICKO, and I do not have children and despise the current public school system.  Sorry, teacher friends, it’s totally not your fault – I know you are completely confined by legalistic and PC rules and your ability to stretch childrens’ capacity to learn is completely inhibited.

The whole writing thing

So, I took a major deviation from what I know and have done in the past as far as writing is concerned.

I started my first novel, though, in this stage, I believe writers refer to said material as a “manuscript.”  So, I have, what I call, two chapters of my first manuscript.  Google Docs says I currently have 2392 words; I’m not sure if that’s relevant or not.  How many words would the average fiction novel consist of?  I’ll have to research that.

I’ve never written in this format before.  I’m only familiar with working in screenplay and poem formats; though poetry tends to be boundless as far as format is concerned.  What I’ve always found stifling about screenwriting is the inability to be overtly visual.  Descriptions are bare, situations are stripped and circumstance revolves around spoken dialog.  All else is left to the vision of someone else to translate to the screen.  I’m not knocking this by any means, I do want to work in film for a living.  But I think I’ve found something in this “new” format.

In writing these “chapters,” I’ve found a freedom and joy that I think I had long lost in the confines of screenwriting.  I wrote feverishly with a smile on my face while my soul lept for joy inside of me.  I found it so freeing to explore the details of my characters and their belongings.  In short, this process so far has been just plain fun.
