Perhaps it sounds ridiculous, but the best thing that young filmmakers should do is to get hold of a camera and some film and make a movie of any kind at all.

Doesn’t sound ridiculous at all.
In fact, you don’t see this type of encouragement enough these days, especially from established auteurs. I get excited when I read stuff like this. Kubrick is one of my favorite filmmakers, so to have found this quote makes this even more personal.
We can all sit around and want to be anything. Becoming that thing requires action.
